Portable Generator Danger

The Consumer Product Safety Commission warns homeowners who use generators during emergencies about safe use. A number of people died last year from carbon monoxide poisoning produced by generators.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) today released some of the dangers of home generators … and displayed new warning labels for portable generators.

Last year at least 55 people died from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning associated with portable generators.

The majority of those deaths came from people using generators in the aftermaths of last season's hurricanes.

CPSC officials say people should take safety precautions when using generators, including only using them outdoors and installing a CO monitor in your home.
