Amateur video showed cars slipping and sliding and running into each other on the streets of Portland, Ore., on Tuesday.

The video was shot during Tuesday's cold snap by amateur photographer Derek Porter from the balcony of his apartment near downtown Portland.

Drivers had little to no control of their cars as they tried to navigate down an icy road.

Many of them crashed into other vehicles parked on the side of the road, the video showed.

Porter said he saw 15 collisions, including one accident that involved a fire truck.

There was no word of any injuries in any of the accidents, NBC News reported.

The death toll in the winter storm had grown to 51 in nine states.

About 400,000 homes and businesses in several states were still without electricity Tuesday after a storm that brought ice, snow, flooding and high winds to a swath of the country from Texas to Maine.

Forecasters expected more freezing rain to hit parts of Texas on Wednesday night, said Dennis Cook of the National Weather Service. Gusty winds were forecast to make the Northeast bone-chilling cold through Wednesday night before warming Thursday.
